Hey friends! This year, we have decided to not host weekly Taylors Farmers Markets. After a lot of work over the off season to chart a path forward, we continued to run into a few key challenges that bring us to our decision.
Some background and thoughts the led us to discontinue the weekly markets:
1. The market has not helped farmers. The people the market is designed to help most end up with the worst sales of any vendor category at the market. This panned out in both our anonymous sales reporting and in talking to farmers. We heard from shoppers that they wanted to see more farmers, but when we would add more they would each individually preform worse. We would rather be part of thinking about solutions to this problem than doing the same things over and over.
2. Lots of markets! There are a lot of very successful markets in the Upstate that operate weekly. We would rather not reproduce something others are doing well that is in close proximity, and focus on other needs that are not being addressed well in our area.
3. Life changes for several team members. Changes in people's circumstances are inevitable. While we love seeing people grow and shift roles in family and other commitments, we also need fresh ideas and new people to keep moving forward. We lost a few key members in positions we didn't feel, given the other challenges, we wanted to move forward without filling.
We know that our best days in Taylors are still ahead, but at this time, we need to step back from weekly markets to regroup and consider our next steps. We do plan to have some festivals this year, and will update as those plans form!
